Exciting Second Event!

If you missed our first event or are still interested in helping the homeless and our environment. I am so excited to announce our second event on Wednesday, July 19th from 6-8 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone. If you are unable to attend the event, we would still greatly appreciate donations. Please contact us if you have any questions. Hope to see you all there! Thank you!

Wonderful First Event!!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out and made our first event so successful! We were able to create 5 balls of plarn (plastic yarn) that will later be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless. Words cannot express how grateful I am for everyone who came to the event and everyone that donated their plastic grocery bags. Thank you for all your help!

Event!!

Hi Everyone!

We are excited to announce our first event! Thursday, June 29th from 6-8 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Tyrone!

The people who attend will learn about the problems my project tackles and possible solutions. They will also learn how to create mats for the homeless out of plastic grocery bags. These mats are made by collecting hundreds of used non-recycled common grocery bags, cutting the bags into strips, turning them into balls of plastic yarn (plarn) and crocheting them together and voila we have a durable, clean, comfortable, and light weight mat with carrying handle that we can distribute to the homeless to sleep on.  Keeping them off the ground, away from dirt and bugs, and offering comfort and better body heat retention. These mats are also portable, easy to clean, and free to create.

We ask that if people can they bring scissors, plastic bags and excitement about helping others!
Please contact us if you have any questions!

“Stitching” issues together

Plastic grocery bags have a damaging effect on the environment. The traditional solution to this problem would be to stop using plastic bags by bringing your own reusable bags. While this is a great and helpful solution Crochet For a Cause is here to offer another solution. A solution that will not only help the environment and people but one group in particular.
14,000 people in metro Atlanta are homeless.  Many homeless people because of unsafe, cold, or uncomfortable conditions are unable to get quality sleep at night. A lack of quality sleep can increase many of the problems homeless people already face such as mental health or addiction. Lack of sleep only makes  it harder for homeless people to improve their lives and change their situation.
Crochet For a Cause is striving to combat these issues and is here to offer a solution.
Crocheted plastic sleeping mats are the perfect way to “stitch” these two issues together.
